Tommy "Tom" Murray Obituary

Tommy "Tom" Dale Murray, of Steelville, MO, was born on Sunday, February 7, 1954, in Salem, MO, to Harold G. Murray and Helen D. Murray, nee Duckworth. He passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO, at the age of 72 years and 4 days.

Tom started school in Herman, Missouri, and moved to Steelville in June of 1965 when he was in the sixth grade. Steelville became his lifelong home. As a boy he had attended New Harmony Church in Salem, MO and the old Center Point Church with his family.  He graduated from Steelville High School with the Class of 1972.

Shortly after graduation, he married the love of his life, Brenda Jean Lea, on July 7, 1973. Together they built a strong and loving family and were blessed with two sons, Mike and Brian. Tom was proud of his boys and deeply loved his family.

Tom’s love of cars and motorcycles began at Murray Shell Station, the family business. He worked there fixing tires and learning the value of hard work. He was known for his ’55 Chevy and his Chevelles, and he enjoyed street racing in his younger days.

He later worked at Arneson Lumber before beginning a long career with the City of Steelville. Tom dedicated 40 years to the city and retired as a Supervisor. He truly loved his job. He enjoyed operating the backhoe, sharing laughs with his coworkers, and going to work each day. He took pride in what he did and in serving his community.

Tom enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and BBQing. He liked spending time with friends, often stopping by the Spare Rib Inn to visit and share stories.

Most of all, Tom loved his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished the time he spent with them and was happiest when they were together.

Tom will be remembered for his hard work, his laughter, and his love for those closest to him. He will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen Murray; parents-in-law, Lloyd Lea and Helen (Robert “Bob”) Frances; brother, Harold “Eddie” Murray; brother-in-law, Dennis (Linda) Lea; sisters-in-law, Barbara Parker, Doris (Kenny) Green and Dorothy Lea.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Murray of Steelville, MO; sons, Mike (Jenny) Murray and Brian Murray both of Steelville, MO; 5 grandchildren: Jordan Murray, Brianna Murray (fiancé Jacob), Josh Murray, Keith Murray and Brandon (wife Aakkhir) Murray; great granddaughter, Aurora Murray; brothers, Billy Ray (wife Christine) Murray of Kansas City, MO and Jack (wife Sharyn) Murray of St. Charles, MO; brothers-in-law, Eugene (Paula) Lea and JR Parker both of Steelville, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
