Bobbie Metzger Obituary

Bobbie Lee Metzger, of Cook Station, MO, was born on Monday, April 27, 1936, in St. Louis, MO to Lonnie Metzger and Myrtle Metzger, nee Warden.  He passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, at St. James Living Center, at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 9 days.

Bobbie was a man shaped by hard work, devotion, and quiet strength. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and from a young age learned the meaning of responsibility when he left school to help care for his family. That same sense of duty guided him throughout his life. He began working at Lueking Transportation, and when his country called, he answered without hesitation—serving honorably in the United States Army from 1959 until 1962.

After returning home, Bobbie went back to Lueking Transportation, where he dedicated an incredible 43 years of his life. As a skilled tractor-trailer maintenance worker, he took pride in doing things right and doing them well. His strong work ethic was matched by his loyalty, and he was proud to be a member of Teamsters Local #618. Bobbie was truly a jack of all trades—whether building, welding, or fixing just about anything, he always found a way to get the job done.

On September 10, 1955, Bobbie married the love of his life, Betty Louise Timper, in St. Louis, and together they built a life grounded in love and commitment. From their union came two sons, Wayne and Bryan, who were a constant source of pride. Bobbie was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time at the shooting range, but nothing brought him greater happiness than his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Myrtle Metzger; parents-in-law, Joseph and Lillian Timper; siblings, Anita Metzger, Ernest (Audry) Metzger, Jeannie Porter, Mary (Chester) Lada and Monnie Farrsey; sister-in-law, Deloris (Ed) Rhodes.

Bobbie is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Betty Metzger of Cook Station, MO; sons, Wayne Metzger of Warrenton, MO and Bryan Metzger (significant other, Valerie Naylor) of Cuba, MO; granddaughter; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 12:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.  Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Steelville, MO with full military honors.
